Cervical Cryotherapy
A physician may elect to use cervical cryotherapy for hpv related dysplasia as interpreted on a Pap smear.
A metal probe with liquid nitrogen running through it is used to freeze the surface layer cells on the cervix. This procedure take about 20 minutes to perform and once completed the body will expel the abnormal cells that have been killed out of the body over about 2-3 weeks.

When abnormal cells are found on the cervix from HPV, the condition is called dysplasia. If the dysplasia is at a mild level, then most of the time it is treated through a procedure that freezes the abnormal cells. Another name for this is cryosurgery. A physician may elect to use cervical cryotherapy for hpv related dysplasia as interpreted on a Pap smear.
