Speculum Cervix
A physician inserts a speculum, cervix is swabbed; if ASCUS on the pap smear is positive, biopsy is generally ordered.
During the procedure, the doctor will place the colposcope so that he or she can look at the cervical os through the opening. If there are any abnormal areas, the doctor will take a biopsy — a small sample of the tissue.

Speculum Cervix -
ASCUS, Pap Smear
This examination evaluates vaginal wall and cervical area. The patient should be given an opportunity to empty her bladder and should be drapped appropriately. The examiner should use warm gloved hands and warmed instruments and explain each step of the examination in advance. A physician inserts a speculum, cervix is swabbed; if ASCUS on the pap smear is positive, biopsy is generally ordered.
